foto24421-1One sloppy wave of the pen - and a flourish of ink appeared on a new leatherette jacket.

But even if the rod bursts and drips, leaving a large stain, the item does not have to be dry-cleaned. You can do it yourself using folk methods or chemicals designed to remove stains.

How you can wipe off the traces of the handle from leatherette (eco-leather), we will tell in the article.

Gel versus ball: is there a difference in removing paste stains?

The gel pen is more easily soiled - the water-based coloring pigment does not dry so quickly, so the inscription is easy to smear. And as part of a ballpoint pen ink - an oil mixture, stains on leatherette will be more corrosive.

How to remove traces using folk methods?

First, the product must be tested on a small and inconspicuous piece of leatherette. There is a possibility that the solution will be too aggressive and, together with the ink paste, will bring out the color of the jacket or sofa.

Soap solution

foto24421-2You can use soapy water from laundry soap or dishwashing detergent:

  1. It is more convenient to remove the stain with a brush. You can use an old dentist. It must be moistened with soapy water.
  2. Use a soapy brush to scrub the stained area until the ink fades.
  3. Then it is recommended to wipe the leatherette with a dry cloth.

This is a versatile method, suitable for gel and ballpoint pens. But it will take a long time to scrub. Do not use too much force, otherwise the texture of the fabric may be damaged.

Ammonia

Ammonia solution wipes off traces well ink pen. But it can ruin the fabric, so ammonia is usually mixed with glycerin in a 1: 1 ratio. With this solution, you need to rub the leatherette until the stain completely disappears.

Liquids containing alcohol

Vodka, rubbing alcohol, cologne and just about any alcohol-based liquid will easily remove the stain from a gel or ballpoint pen:

  • you need to wipe the stain with a sponge moistened with alcohol;
  • wipe the area with glycerin.
Alcohol has a bad effect on leatherette (dries).But glycerin softens the tissue and neutralizes the aggressive effect of an alcohol-containing liquid.

How to remove with milk?

foto24421-3It is necessary to make a milk compress: soak a napkin with warm milk and apply to the stain.

In this state, you need to leave leatherette for 15 minutes.and then rinse the area with water and wipe dry.

To make the result more obvious for stubborn stains, wipe the stain with a sponge dipped in milk before applying the compress. But the compress itself is applied fresh.

Soda

A solution with soda is used for a two-step cleaning:

  1. You need to prepare a solution: a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water.
  2. Apply the solution to a sponge and wipe off the ink.
  3. Prepare a soap solution to remove soda particles from the leatherette.

Best used for old ballpoint pen stains.

Salt

You can use regular coarse or fine salt:

  • clean leatherette with soapy water;
  • sprinkle with salt so that it completely covers the stain;
  • leave the leatherette in this state for several hours (about 5);
  • remove the salt with a damp cloth and wipe dry.
This method works well with a ballpoint pen, as the salt works well for greasy and oily stains.

Lemon acid

foto24421-4It is necessary to make a solution: dilute 2-3 g of citric acid in 250 ml of water.

Blot the sponge with the solution and rub the stain until it becomes lighter... After half an hour, rinse the leatherette with soapy water and wipe dry.

The method works for ballpoint pen ink. Acid can severely lighten the area of the fabric. You can use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of citric acid solution.

Hair spray

This method must be used very carefully., since overexposure will lead to the opposite effect: the stain will not only not be removed, but it will become even more difficult to remove:

  • spray regular hairspray over the stained area;
  • wait 15 minutes;
  • wipe the area with soapy water.

Good for removing stubborn ballpoint pen stains.

Hydrogen peroxide

For old stains, it is recommended to use hydrogen peroxide:

  1. You need to moisten the cotton with peroxide and wipe the damaged area with it.
  2. Leave the fabric to dry for 10 minutes.
  3. Wash off the remaining hydrogen peroxide with an alcohol-containing liquid.
  4. Wipe the leatherette with soapy water and wipe dry.
Hydrogen peroxide is best used for natural leather. Leatherette can be bleached or damaged in this way.

Construction tape

foto24421-5It is not necessary to use construction tape, you can take a regular, but it will be slightly less efficient:

  1. Glue a piece of tape to the stained leatherette.
  2. Wait a little (10-15 minutes).
  3. Tear off the tape carefully so as not to damage the leatherette.
  4. Repeat until the ink is completely removed, and then remove the remaining glue with soapy water.

The adhesive on the scotch tape absorbs water-based ink well. But with a sharp removal, along with the tape, you can peel off part of the leatherette, so you cannot use the method near the cuts, even after they are restored.

Dry mustard

Dry mustard is used infrequently... It is only suitable for dark items. Often after its application, yellow stains remain:

  • mix mustard powder with water to make a creamy substance;
  • apply the composition to the stain and leave for 20 minutes;
  • remove the mustard with a damp cloth and rinse thoroughly with soapy water.

Despite the possibility of "side effects", paste of any color wears off without problems.

Sulfur powder

It is unlikely that ordinary sulfur powder is found at home, so it is easier to use a match:

  1. Moisten the area with water.
  2. Rub the stain with the head of the match.
  3. Remove ink residues with soapy water and wipe dry.
This method is only suitable for fresh gel or ballpoint stains. But sulfur powder can injure leatherette, so the method can only be used on rather coarse material.

Melamine sponge

Universal cleaning agent - melamine sponge... It is enough just to wipe it with ink paste until the stain disappears. It is not worth putting in a lot of effort to avoid damaging the material.

Household chemicals

If you do not want to damage the eco-leather with folk remedies or an old stain, you can use household chemicals:

  1. foto24421-6Big D Multipurpose Foam Cleaner... Universal foam cleaner costing from 300 rubles. It is often used by motorists. It is enough to spray the foam on a dirty place and after half an hour, remove the foam with a dry cloth.
  2. Stain remover Dr. Beckmann... Special series "Pen" or "Pen and ink" costing from 160 rubles. The stain remover is liquid, so you need to wipe the stain with a dampened sponge and wait about half an hour, and then rinse.

This list is far from complete. Just about any stain remover marked “for stubborn stains” will work. Separate lines like Dr. Beckmann "Handle" is not often found.

Cleaning a light leatherette is easier than working with a dark one. The risk of lightening eco-leather is insignificant.

From folk remedies are suitable:

  • soda;
  • milk;
  • lemon acid;
  • hydrogen peroxide.
These products have a lightening effect, which will be an added bonus for a light leatherette.

Anti-advice

foto24421-7To prevent this from happening, you cannot:

  1. Rub leatherette with great effort.
  2. Attempt to scrape off the ink paste with your fingernail or scraper.
  3. Use aggressive substances such as solvents.

Be sure to test before using the stain remover.
